Lectures

Week 1: Introduction to the module, platforms, what is expected of us, and breakdown of assignments.

Week 2: The lecture was on the basics of character design, going further into silhouette, colors, and personality. This helps aid us in our first task of designing a unique character. We also learned to use Illustrator, such as the pen tool, shape builder, etc.

Week 3: Class canceled due to public holiday. The lecture materials uploaded on teams focused on using colors and gradients in Illustrator.

Instructions

Task 1A: Vormator Exercise

We are tasked to create one unique character using the given set of shapes in Adobe Illustrator.

Process

When searching up different character designs I really liked the Pokemon ones. I often saw that they combined different animal characteristics to create a character. Personally, I like cats so I chose that as the main body, and added large wings and a tail. After sketching many designs I found this one had the best proportions,

Final

For my final design, I closely followed by sketch making adjustments along the way and adding small details here and there. I chose a light pastel theme for the colors because I wanted to add a 'cute and light' aesthetic to my character.

Reflection

This task helped me learn how to combine and subtract shapes to create what I envision. It also helped me learn more about how to design a character (proportions-wise).
