Work 1
Fig. 1.1 Your Bottle Week Poster, Week 1 (03/04/2023)
Description
This poster really caught my eye. The large blue gradient lettering and all
the plastic bottles conveyed a strong statement. I related the poster to the
disposable plastic used in bottles and cups and their effect to the
environment. I really liked how the designer played with the shapes and
transparency of the bottles, showing how they affect the lettering
behind.
This Poster Expressed
This poster was created to advertise ‘Your Bottle Week’. An initiative started by 7 cafes near Hongik University in Korea. Cafes ultimately use a lot of disposable products, so they stepped up to run their cafe without disposables for a week.
The poster expressed that people should really try to use their own bottles when possible.
The theme is ‘Promoting Sustainability'
The concept is ‘Let’s think about the environment, bring your own bottle’
The bottles are transparent to show they’re made of plastic.
The colours used are blues placed in a gradient to emulate the appearance of water.

I liked the use of vibrant & neon colours that had an overall pastel
tone. I found that in many Japanese designs, the use of pastel colours
always seemed to be put together really beautifully. This particular poster
design uses lots of layering of different images but they blend into the
poster well. I appreciated the cohesive use of lots of bright and pastel
colours, which I find can be a hard line to walk.
This Poster Expressed
This poster was titled ‘Tokyo!’ by artist Tom Mimo, whose work mixes illustration and graphic elements to create electrifying designs.
The poster expressed the urban scenes of Tokyo from the buildings to the cars.
The futuristic approach to the design does express Japan’s great technological advancement.
The theme is ‘Tokyo City!’
The concept is ‘the bright vibrant city life of Tokyo’
The designer uses an intense colour palette that has an overall pastel tonality. The blinking title ‘Tokyo’ resembles a neon sign.

My favourite thing about this poster is how the words are translated to
visuals in a literal sense. In the typography itself, you can see that the
word fast is on fire leaving a trail of smoke behind, and the letters are
shaking from speed. The illustration of key features forms a person
running.
This Poster Expressed
This illustration was part of a series of illustrations created for Nike by Artist Tim Lahan.
The poster expressed that these shoes would get you ‘Going Places Fast’
The theme is ‘Shoes that give you speed’
The concept is ‘You’ll be going so fast you’ll smoke em’
The illustration loosely forms a human figure by using key features such as eyes, arms, and legs. Further emphasizing the words and shoes instead.
