Task 3: Self-Titled Cinematography

Self-titled is an exploration project for the students to express their own individuality and reflect their personality in digital art self-expression. The main idea is to build up self-confidence and discover their interest. The task is to create a digital poster and turn it into an animation.


Process

I found visual references for three poster ideas. I wanted to show how I have a strong imagination, like reading books, and my introverted nature.

I prefer the second sketch because it's close to how I envision my final work and I feel there's more space for me to explore creatively.

I went to the photo studio to take pictures, using Poster 3 above as a reference. I chose to have a high-contrast lighting effect.

Digital Process

I added in the background and adjusted the book size to be out of proportion. Then I added myself on top adding a shadow below me. Then I added some star sparkles behind me.

I started my aftereffects animation, using green screen effects to add butterflies and added some relaxing audio.

Final

After receiving feedback I enlarged myself on the book to add a focal point and balance out the composition. The final video includes a small animation on top of the poster.

Reflection

I had fun experimenting with this assignment. I learned a lot during the photo studio session, things like lighting, posing, and expressions. I was able to use After Effects smoothly, the green screen effects are very useful. Next time, I would like to add more animated features to my video.
