Instructions
Task 2: UI/UX Design Documents
After locking down their App concept and idea, students are now ready to proceed to UX design. The students are required to produce a comprehensive UX design document which will provide better directions for them to design the app.
Documents should include:
- Purpose and Scope
- Target Audience
- Problem Statement
- App Weaknesses
- Survey and Interviews
- User Personas
- User Journey Map
- Research Insights
- Card Sorting Exercise
- Site Map
- User Flow
- Features List
- MVP Identification
Process
During Week 7, we were told to develop our survey and interview questions. I
sent my questions in for feedback during Week 8 and updated according to the
feedback. Below is the document of my interview and survey questions.

During Week 8 and 9, I sent out the survey to people for responses. It was
challenging to collect responses, it took around 2 and a half weeks to
collect 50 responses.
In Week 9, I was interviewing people and recording their responses. I did a
total of 5 interviews and was able to collect valuable feedback. Before
interviewing, interviewees went through the app to have a clear
understanding of the app. During that time, I observed where some users
would feel frustrated and noted it down.
In Week 9, I also conducted card sorting exercises through optimal workshop.
I had a total of 19 cards and 8 pre-defined categories. I collected a total
of 7 responses. I began to compile my documents on a slide deck.

In Week 10, we finally had an in-person class and I could get feedback for
my survey and interview analysis. Mr. Zeon recommended picking the top 8-10
questions, and for each question include a graph and data analysis.
I then began creating my user personas based on the interview and survey
results. After which I was able to create my User Journey Map. Below is a
document of the User Journey Map, following the steps we learned in class.

In Week 11, I received feedback on my slides. My card sorting exercise could
use more explanations. Other than that, I just had to finish up the rest of
the slides.
I began to work on my site map, which was derived from my card sorting
exercise results. After that I worked on my user flow on Figma, playing
around with the layout and format to ensure legibility.

At the end, I compiled everything into the slides below.

Feedback
Week 8: Make certain questions more specific, give example, and add
follow up questions.
Week 10: Add charts/graphs an analysis explaining the data
for each survey question slide.
Week 11: Add more explanation to your card sorting exercise
slides.
Reflection
Experience
This was a really challenging task because there was a lot of user research to do. Collecting responses and scheduling interviews took time. In conjunction with other assignments it was hard to make the time. It was an interesting experience, but it helped me understand all the different methods used in user experience research.
Observation
I chose to interview people in-person because it allowed me to observe them using the app. There were a lot of things I didn't notice that caused users frustration. I learned more about what the app was lacking, and what features users really liked.
Finding
I found that all the parts of UI/UX documents we did related to each other. To make user personas, you had to refer to surveys and interviews. Then to make the site map/user flow you had to use the card sorting exercise results. So everything had to be done in order to complete the whole process.
